The Big Crafty

Interesting sticker placement. A subtle message.

I made black bean soup on Sunday. Soaked the beans for hours, seasoned it and did all the right stuff and it really is flavorless. Thanks cooking God.

I had Ramen noodles for dinner last night.

What kind of greens should I grow for using as salad?

Has anyone here grown radishes?

Have a loverly day.

Radishes are the easiest thing to grow. Very quick. so put that on your list. I'm not sure of your climate but any kind of lettuce in good soil grows quickly. Spinach also should grow easily in your area and if you like spinach it makes a great addition in raw form to a salad. I mostly grow arugula (bitter), red leaf, and romaine in the cooler months w/o any problems. beans are good for you and are a great bargain meal. I make them at least once a week. Red or black w/ some spicy cajun sausage, over rice it makes a wonderful fulling meal. Glad to hear your getting on w/ the move. I know you'll be planting sunflowers too...

Radishes are easy, but it takes some experimenting to get the best seeds; I like 'em spicy as possible. Put 'em in the ground, water, and in a couple weeks you will have radishes. Don't forget to cull the smaller shoots as the larger ones grow.

Black-eyed peas are a good bean to eat on occasion. If you are a country boy, you can use dandelion from the lawn in salad; use fresh young leaves. Baby poke is very good for salad; just make sure they are no more than 8" - 10" tall. A double whammy is turnip greens; if you like turnips you may like the greens.

ken is so right... even though you will probaly pull half out you MUST thin the radishes or they won't grow to lovely round (or oblong pending the type) veggies. I so often can't bring myself to thin them and end up with a thin root worth nothing. You'll figure what is best for you and that dear friend is half of the fun in gardening. ! sunflowers.....a must.

Ok so radishes are on the garden list, as is spinach. Not sure on what other green yet. Yes sunflowers are in the plan.

Outside of green beans I have not planned on another bean, yet.

thanks for the thinning radishes tips.

Beets are easy to grow and add color to a garden! Heh-heh.
Cucumbers like to climb, so they do well on a chicken-wire fence. I suggest growing pickling cucumbers.
